Thousands of Papua New Guinea cocoa and coffee farmers look set to benefit from a 46-point-3 million US dollar project, that's been launched in Goroka.
The six year Productive Partnerships in Agriculture Project aims to improve the livelihoods of rural communities by assisting coffee and cocoa farmers in rural areas of the country.
Its being funded by the World Bank, the Government of Papua New Guinea, the International Fund for Agricultural Development and sources within the private sector.
The Post Courier paper reports that currently over 80-percent of Papua New Guineans live in rural areas and are largely dependent on agriculture for their livelihoods.
The project will focus on areas dependent on coffee and cocoa production like East New Britain, the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, Eastern Highlands and Chimbu Province.
