Port Moresby/NZ business body to raise fund for Christchurch quake victims

10:33 am on 14 April 2011

A New Zealand business delegation visiting Papua New Guinea has re-established the New Zealand Port Moresby Business Council and its first action will be to raise funds for the victims of the Christchurch earthquake.

New Zealand Trade and Enterprise's, Michael Greenslade, says having the Business Council back in place will be a huge boon for trade between the two countries.

He says they'll be closely linked to the Auckland based New Zealand/PNG Business Council.

"They've got their first function this Friday night. Unfortunately some of us can't be there but they've got a fund raising auction for the Christchurch earthquake. So we were able to secure a couple of All Black jerseys signed by Michael Jones, so hopefully they'll get a good return for that and for Christchurch."

The main aim for the delegation of 27 is to seek business from the huge developments happening in PNG's minerals and oil and gas sector and it's already secured some contracts.
