Sport: Fiji women lose tri-series cricket final

12:48 pm on 15 April 2011

New South Wales side Northern Rivers have won the international cricket tri-series tournament in Vanuatu after edging Fiji in a rain-affected final on Thursday.

Fiji batted first and could only make 85 for 8 from their 20 overs with Ruci Kaiwai top-scoring with 26.

In reply Northern Rivers started well to be 32-1 after eight overs before a few wickets brought Fiji back into the game.

But the game was forced into a countback after rain forced an early finish with 17 balls still left to be bowled, with Northern Rivers winning by three runs under the Duckworth Lewis system.

It was Fiji's first loss of the tournament.
