Cook Islands George to face privileges committee

7:29 pm on 18 April 2011

Independent Cook Islands MP, Norman George, has been called before parliament's privileges committee after refusing to attend the swearing in of MPs in February.

The committee will decide whether he was in contempt of a summons from the Queens Representative.

Mr George stood for the Cook Islands Party in last year's election but resigned when he was left out of cabinet.

He'd refused to attend the swearing in as a protest at what he perceives as unfair treatment from the ruling party.
