Nauru to consult public over PICTA

4:18 pm on 19 April 2011

The Nauru government is seeking the public's views on the Pacific Island Countries Trade Agreement, or PICTA.

This comes after the deal was broadened from trade in goods to include trade in services, which also involves an easing in the movement of workers from one country to another.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade says Nauru is offering professional business services such as tourism and transport.

It says other countries are seeking to be involved in Nauru's banking sector and professional service areas such as midwifery, nursing, physiotherapy and the law.
