Micronesian leaders look to develop local policy think tanks

1:55 pm on 22 April 2011

Moves are underway to develop an informal Micronesia policy network in Palau, the Federated States of Micronesia and the Marshall Islands.

Leaders from those three countries gathered in Pohnpei earlier this month to discuss strategies for strengthening local public policy processes.

The Pacific Institute of Public Policy, which facilitated the meeting, says a number of strategies were identified, including policy design, monitoring and evaluation, and accountability functions.

The Institute's executive director, Derek Brien, says strategies proposed called for more in-country policy research and analysis.
