Whiteside appointed as Fiji Reserve Bank governor

The acting governor of the Reserve Bank of Fiji, Barry Whiteside, has been made the new Governor for a three-year term.

His appointment has been confirmed by the President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau following consultations with the acting finance minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum has told Fijilive that the appointment demonstrates the government's continuing efforts to enhance confidence and certainty in the banking sector as well as within the financial sector.

He says Mr Whiteside has been with the Bank since 1976.
