America West Jets is finishing market analysis in American Samoa amid plans to launch flights between American Samoa and Los Angeles in November.

The Chief Executive Officer, Drex Hansen, says they are looking at two flights a week and flights to Samoa and Fiji:

"Our goal is to have two flights a week, one through each of the Samoa's in each direction, Los Angeles and onto Australia and two flights a week through Fiji, we have a pretty good situation in Fiji as well."

Mr Hansen said initial surveys showed the market would not support a Boeing 747 aircraft, and so the proposal is now to use two 767s.

He says flights into all these centres would create a profitable operation that would justify investing in infrastructure to cope with fuel issues
