Fiji says it expects to see major development projects and benefits as a result of extending its diplomatic network.

The Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Solo Mara, says last year, Fiji was able to formalise 25 new diplomatic relations and is looking at more this year as part of its Look North Policy.

Mr Mara has told FBC News that one of the benefits is the increase in scholarships being awarded to Fiji.

He says apart from traditional friends, other countries that have awarded scholarships to Fiji students include Cuba, Malaysia, Indonesia and recently Morocco.

He says Fiji will expect more development in infrastructure, citing as an example the Turkish government funding of the Buca Hydro which was opened last year.
