Tahiti and Solomon Islands to meet in Oceania futsal final

10:16 am on 20 May 2011

The Futsal World Cup is just one game away for Tahiti and the Solomon Islands

after both teams advanced to Friday's Oceania Championship decider in Suva.

Tahiti needed a penalty shoot-out to finally overcome New Zealand in their semi final after a thrilling 3-3 extra-time draw while the Kurukuru thumped Vanuatu 13-1.

Tahiti coach Heitapu Hunter admits they rode their luck against New Zealand and says anything can happen in a one-off final.

Solomons coach Dickson Kaday says he's proud of his team's performances so far and acknowledged the final wont be easy, after just one goal separated the teams clash in pool play earlier in the week.

Meanwhile Kiribati earned their first ever win at the Oceania Futsal Champs with a 3-2 success over Tuvalu in the playoff for seventh place, while Fiji pipped New Caledonia for fifth spot.

The Solomon Islands have won the past three Oceania futsal tournaments.
