New Zealand business people look for opportunities in Melanesia

A New Zealand government MP who's part of a trade mission to Vanuatu, says they aim to strengthen the relationship between New Zealand and local business people.

John Hayes says currently nothing is exported from Vanuatu to New Zealand and they would like to change this.

He says the 12 New Zealand business people who are in the trade mission want to buy Vanuatu products.

Mr Hayes says there's no point of containers coming into Vanuatu full and leaving empty.

He's held talks with deputy prime minister, Ham Lini, who is responsible for external trade.

After Vanuatu, the mission will visit Solomon Islands.
