American Samoa veterans in land lease row with government

3:05 pm on 24 May 2011

The American Samoa Veterans' Association has begun legal action to prevent the territorial government from interfering with its use of the half acre land in Tafuna that it leases from the administration.

The Veterans' Association claims its 30 year lease for the land doesn't expire until 2017.

The Veterans Association contends that the American Samoa Government breached the lease agreement when its employees and agents attempted to interfere with the enjoyment of recreational facilities at the site.

The governor has given the association until later this week to vacate the premises, but it wants a temporary restraining order issued against the government.
