Fiji's interim prime minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, has rejected claims by a former associate that there will be no election in 2014.
Lieutenant Colonel Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba Mara, who fled to Tonga while on bail in a sedition case, accused the interim Prime Minister of having no intention of keeping his word but to promise elections to soften sanctions and to secure loans.
But Commodore Bainimarama has told Fijilive that elections will be held in 2014.
He says Colonel Mara, one of the co-conspirators of the 2006 coup, is a little kid who doesn't know what is happening around him.
The interim government has made no comments on Col Mara's claim that the interim prime minister now draws a salary of nearly 400,000 US dollars from a Fiji budget that is not audited.
The suggested figure is about the same as that paid to the US president, but higher than the salary of the British or the Australian prime minister.
