3:08 pm on 26 May 2011

The Fisheries Division of Samoa's Ministry of Agriculture is trying to eradicate the crown of thorns starfish pest which is affecting several lagoons on the south coast of Upolu island.

The fisheries division has met this week with representatives of the affected villages and is seeking the public's help to try and eliminate the pest.

The crown of thorns starfish is considered a predator and can destroy corals.

A clean up of the sea creature will begin at the end of this month and continue into July.
