A former Bougainvillean MP who's been cast in the film Mister Pip says it's a dream come true.

Filming is about to begin on the adaptation of the Lloyd Jones novel which is set in Bougainville during the civil war.

It's a story about the last white man on the island who teaches the local children by reading Charles Dickens' Great Expectations.

Francesca Semosa will play a grandmother who loses her grandson.

She says like other locals, she's excited to be involved and says she'll draw on personal experiences and historical accounts, for her scenes.

"It's a movie that's going to really portray the wishes, the hardships that the women of Bougainville did go through during the conflict. The women, the children, the men. Bougainvilleans generally, as Bougainvillean people. You know, how did they feel during the crisis?"

Francesca Semosa says shooting on Bougainville gets underway next week.
