The U.S. Department of the Interior's Office of Insular Affairs has committed up to one million US dollars in financial aid for the Northern Marianas to develop an economic revitalisation programme.
Providing such a programme is among the requirements of the law change that placed CNMI immigration under federal control.
The Interior Department report says the funds are to assist the CNMI to develop an economic revitalisation programme and enabling the government to work with local agencies and non-profit groups to provide on-the-job training for eligible U.S. workers.
