Papua New Guinea police say two double murders took place on the outskirts of Port Moresby over the weekend.
Local media reports that one of the double murders is being linked to revenge attacks and allegations of sorcery.
The National Capital District's police commander Fred Sheekiot says the first attack, late on Saturday evening resulted in two young men being killed on the Magi Highway, their bodies were dumped alongside Bautama bridge.
Commander Sheekiot says at around 4AM on Sunday morning, two men in their early twenties, both from Madowate village in the Bautama area, were hacked to death while they were asleep at their home.
At least three others were injured in the stabbing attack.
Police say the deaths came after a plan by Goilala settlers at 6-Mile to attack and kill a Koiari family of Madowate.
The Koiari family had been blamed for using sorcery against a Goilala woman.
Commander Sheekiot says police retrieved three blood-stained bush knives for forensic tests while one of the stabbing victims has fled the hospital.
