Samoa into U20 final in Georgia

10:12 am on 2 June 2011

Samoa have qualified for the final of the Junior World Rugby Trophy, after thrashing Russia 50-14 in their final pool match on Wendesday evening.

The win puts them one game away from promotion to the top tier elite Junior World Championships for next season.

Team Manager Sami Leota says being able to win a game on such an important day in Samoa's history made the result extra special.

"It's first of June in which we are celebrating our independence celebrations - people back home will be celebrating this very very important occasion tomorrow. You know it's good for us, for the boys for morale and team spirit, that we got this win in our pocket and winning on the first of June is another bonus for us to be proud of."

Samoa will play Japan in Sunday's final.
