Sport: Singh's majors streak set to end

10:24 am on 7 June 2011

The former golf world number one Vijay Singh's incredible run of playing in 67 consecutive major golf championships over the past 17 years appears to be over after the Fijian missed his tee time for a US Open qualifying tournament.

The 48-year-old said after the final round of the US PGA Memorial that he would not play in the Tuesday qualifier...meaning he needs a top two finish at this week's St. Jude Classic in Memphis to maintain his streak.

Singh was given a special exemption into last year's US Open at Pebble Beach, but it's understood there'll be no special exemptions this year.
