Racism complaint lodged in French Polynesia

4:45 pm on 7 June 2011

A French Polynesian assembly member has launched an official complaint of inciting racial hatred against an assembly vice-president, Hiro Tefaarere.

Sandra Levy-Agami lodged her complaint with the public prosecutor and the French anti-discrimination agency.

Her action follows a letter by Mr Tefaarere to the president, Oscar Temaru, urging him to purge the administration of non-Polynesians.

She says the economic crisis should be tackled together, without consideration to ethnicity.
