The New Zealand broadcasting minister, Jonathan Coleman, and Pacific Islands Affairs Minister, Georgina te Heuheu, have welcomed the opening of the new Pacific Media Network studio in Wellington.
The studio is to be run in collaboration with the Whitireia Journalism School.
Pacific Media Network operates Auckland based Niu FM and 531PI.
Dr Coleman says Niu FM's foray into the capital increases the reach of Pacific language programming and news.
Mrs te Heuheu says the network is vitally important in connecting Pacific communities across the country.
