Nurse shortage hampering services in Northern Marianas

7:42 pm on 13 June 2011

The Commonwealth Health Center in the Northern Marianas has just 175 nurses compared with 235 just over a year ago.

The acting nursing director, Gayline Blau, blames the low salaries being paid.

She says the hospital has a huge shortage of staff across almost all areas of operation, including maternity services, which has five staff instead of the eight it's meant to have.
