1:56 pm on 14 June 2011

The New Zealand Foreign Minister, Murray McCully, is to meet the Vanuatu Prime Minister, Sato Kilman, this afternoon at the start of a Melanesian tour.

Mr McCully will also travel to Solomon Islands, but has cancelled a planned trip to Papua New Guinea.

Walter Zweifel report from Port Vila:

"The talks in Port Vila will deal with the transfer of the Pacific Islands Forum from Vanuatu to New Zealand this year. According to Mr McCully this also involves discussing plans to accommodate the post forum dialogue meetings in Auckland expected to be attended by significant but as yet unnamed leaders from partner countries and multilateral agencies. This year's summit will mark the 40th anniversary, but missing from the occasion will be a key founding member, Fiji."
