Papua New Guinea police say they are searching for the son of the Acting Prime Minister in relation to the alleged murder of a woman.

Police Commissioner Anthony Wagambie says Teo Abal, the younger son of Sam Abal, is wanted for questioning.

He says witnesses have stated that Teo Abal was the last person seen in the company of the woman in the early hours of Monday morning at the Acting Prime Minister's private residence in Konedobu.

Police say Sam Abal was away for the long weekend when the incident occurred.

Mr Wagamabie says he was contacted by the Acting Prime Minister after a security guard discovered the body in the grounds of his residence.
