The police in Papua New Guinea won't confirm whether or not charges have been laid against the adopted son of the acting prime minister, Sam Abal.

The police are questioning Teo Abal over the death of a woman on Mr Abal's property early on Monday morning.

On Tuesday Mr Abal stressed that he would cooperate with the police on the case.

He also added that if any of his family members are involved with the murder inquiry, they'll face the full brunt of the law and be treated no differently than anyone else in a similar situation.

The Opposition's calling for Mr Abal, who's standing in for Sir Michael Somare while he recovers from heart surgery, to step down during the investigation.
