Inflation in American Samoa reached 7 point two percent in the first quarter of this year.
That compares with 5 point 3 percent a year ago.
Clothing was nearly 17 percent more expensive, alcoholic beverages were up 10 point 9 percent, while the rise in the cost of housing was just two percent.
Our correspondent reports that while some food prices are soaring, for example lamb flaps are now more expensive than chicken, the Consumer Price Index shows just a point four of a percent rise in the cost of food.
