Staff at Tahiti Nui TV are shocked about comments by the French Polynesian president, Oscar Temaru, that the station is about to stop broadcasting and become a web-based outfit only.
As Mr Temaru's administration is grappling with financial problems, he has told media that cuts will have to be made in line with recommendations by a French government report.
This means TNTV will see change and he has signalled that the news agency Tahitipresse will no longer be funded which could lead to its closure.
A roadmap for an economic recovery is to be tabled in the assembly in a week and there is an expectation that according to the recommendations public and semi-public agencies will be closed.
In recent weeks, Mr Temaru has warned of the severe constraints and suggested halving all salaries in both the public sector and private industry.
