Fiji aims to improve access to safe water

Fiji's Water Authority says it hopes more than sixty per cent of the population will have access to clean and safe drinking water by 2014.

A spokesman says one hundred and eighty projects improved water access and supply last year.

By the end of this year, the authority hopes to have computerised and rehabilitated treatment plants in the Suva and Nausori areas.

The authority is urging people to pay their water bills as it tries to reach World Health Organisation and United Nations goals of dramatic improvements in the supply of safe drinking water.
