7:07 pm on 27 June 2011

Public auditors and accountants from United States-affiliated islands in the Pacific will be tackling procurement fraud as part of a conference on finanacial management.

The annual Association of the Pacific Islands Public Auditors conference is to be hosted by the Marshall Islands early next month.

The Marshall Islands Auditor General, Junior Patrick, says the country has recently experienced problems with people conspiring to commit document fraud.

"So we thought that by having a procurement fraud session, our accountants and auditors will be able to feedback and quickly identify these fraud issues around procurement."

Junior Patrick says the conference will involve delegates from Palau, Guam, American Samoa, the Federated States of Micronesia and the Northern Marianas.
