Samoa Electric Power top officers suspended, government orders investigation

3:05 pm on 4 July 2011

The Samoa government has ordered the Chief Auditor's office to investigate the finances of the country's Electric Power Corporation.

Cabinet has suspended two of the company senior managers.

The government has also appointed an acting general manager after Muaausa Joseph Walter's contract ended last week.

The suspension of the two senior staff comes amid allegations of corruption relating to the use of some of the corporation's funds.

In a media release, the cabinet says to safeguard the independence of the audit, the top management has been suspended, pending its outcome.
