Broken pipe leads to pollution concerns in Guam

7:09 pm on 4 July 2011

The Guam Environmental Protection Agency has closed public access to West Hagatna Bay due to possible contamination from a broken sewerage pipe.

The Pacific Daily News reports that the pipe is just one of three which pump the effluent from the 6 million gallons of sewage passing through the Hagatna treatment plant each day.

The Agency has also issued 10 advisories affecting Guam's beaches, due to pollution above the accepted bacteria standards as at June 30.
