NZ unions plan meeting with Fiji pro-democracy groups

7:13 pm on 4 July 2011

New Zealand's Council of Trade Unions plans to meet with Fiji pro-democracy groups in New Zealand in the next two weeks as part of plans to support unions in Fiji.

Fiji Trades Union Congress National Secretary Felix Anthony has been in New Zealand to get support for what he sees as increasing curbs and intimidation of unions in Fiji.

He's also spoken out about being beaten by members of the Fiji military.

A spokesperson for the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions says it's still working on options to support Fiji's union movement including meeting with members of the Fiji community based in New Zealand.
