Hundreds of Indonesian military troops have reportedly converged in and around villages in the Tingginambut area of Papua's Puncak Jaya regency.

West Papua Media Alerts reports that over 600 TNI troops have been conducting daily full combat operations in the area since July 4.

The troops have reportedly attacked a series of villages said to be the refuge of the West Papuan Guerrilla leader Goliat Tabuni, leader of the West Papua National Liberation Army's TPN faction.

The TNI has also occupied several villages.

The state news agency Antara reports that there have been daily firefights between the TPN and TNI forces.

Local rights activists put the death toll at 20 TPN fatalities, and five Indonesian military casualties.
