Samoa's Prime Minister says the country's rugby win over Australia shows the team is capable of going all the way and winning the World Cup.

Manu Samoa stunned the Wallabies 32-23 in Sydney on Sunday to record their first ever victory over the two-time world cup champions.

Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, who is also the Chairman of the Samoa Rugby Union, says he's over the moon after the win, which he says warmed the heart of the Pacific Island nation.

Tuilaepa says he knew the team would be competitive in the game but says defeating the second-ranked team shows Samoa can win the world cup.
