The Solomon Islands opposition says the education minister, Dick Ha'amori, should be sacked for not backing a government commitment to give land at the College of Higher Education for the establishment of a local campus for the University of the South Pacific.
The opposition leader, Dr Derek Sikua, says the prime minister, Danny Philip, wrote to the USP Vice Chancellor Professor Rajesh Chandra in April this year saying part of the College's campus at Panatina would be available for the USP development.
But Dr Sikua says Mr Ha'amori has opposed the move and should be removed for insubordination.
Dr Sikua says the opposition fully supports the prospect of Solomon Islands hosting what would the fourth USP campus and is urging the government, the College board, the Asian Development Bank and the university management to ensure it goes ahead.
