The US Coast Guard is continuing its search for 15 Micronesians missing after a skiff disappeared about 900 kilometres southeast of Guam.

CNN reports that after 30 hours searching around 10-thousand square nautical miles of ocean, the Coast Guard has yet to find any sign of the boat or its passengers and crew.

The small boat, which carried six children and nine adults, was last seen near Chuuk in the Federated States of Micronesia, on Monday.

It was headed for tiny Ruo Island about 110 kilometres northeast of Chuuk.

The Coast Guard said that most of the missing people work in Chuuk and were traveling home to Ruo where they are three days overdue.

The Federated States of Micronesia government, the Chuuk state government and the Guam sector of the Coast Guard have coordinated a joint search to find the boat.

US Navy and Coast Guard aircraft and a Norwegian cargo ship are also involved.
