Fifteen people from the Federated States of Micronesia who went missing at sea a week ago were found yesterday safe on an uninhabited island.
The Pacific Daily News reports that a vessel leaving Ruo Island, the intended destination of the missing boat, reported sighting the 28-foot skiff marooned and overturned, as well as several people on shore.
A Coast Guard patrol boat traveled 880 kilometres from Guam to reach the stranded survivors, and is scheduled to return them to Ruo or Weno in the FSM.
The six children and nine adults, ages 4 to 59, were reportedly found in good health and with food.
The search by the US Coast Guard and Navy spanned more than 18,000 square miles of ocean.
