3:31 pm on 28 July 2011

The American Samoa Government's inter-island vessel MV Sili has been cleared to re-enter service.

The US Coast Guard gave the vessel its certificate of inspection this afternoon after it successfully passed a safety inspection this morning.

Lieutenant Steven Caskey praised the efforts of the port director, Matagi McMoore and his staff, and the crew of the vessel for getting the safety equipment on board up to par.

He says everyone worked together to get the ship ready and he's very pleased with the response.

The inspection covered life saving equipment, and crew response to emergencies.

The MV Sili is now set to travel to Manu'a tomorrow night, the first such trip in more than a week.
