Fiji police say New Zealander died from liver complications not assault

Authorities in Fiji say post mortem results indicate New Zealander Tony Groom died from liver complications and not as a result of an alleged beating.

Mr Groom died last Friday.

Earlier reports had suggested that Mr Groom, a businessman in Nadi, had died of injuries he'd received in an assault.

But police spokesperson, inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri, told FBC News the post mortem results are what matters in court and the investigation into Mr Groom's death will now cease.

However he says there were visible signs of injury on the dead man's body.
