1:40 pm on 2 August 2011

A former Guadalcanal warlord, Harold Keke, and another man, are on trial for the murder of a man at Weathercoast area in 2001.

The Solomon Star reports Harold Keke and Ronnie Cawa are on trial for the murder of Paul McSweeney at Inakona village.

In its opening address the Crown said the accused men, with others, beat Mr McSweeney over a sustained period of time, resulting in his death.

The public prosecutor Robert Barry says they acted with either an intention to kill or to cause grievous harm.

The deceased had been allegedly apprehended by the Keke's militia group and taken to Inakona where he was held prisoner before being beaten to death.

In court, when the charge was read out Keke told the prosecution that his name isn't Harold Keke but B.A, the son of US President Barak Obama.

Keke and Cawa are already serving life sentences for murder.
