No shortage of teachers in Cook Islands

9:37 am on 5 August 2011

The Cook Islands Ministry of Education secretary, Sharyn Paio, says there is no mass exodus of teachers from the country, despite advertisements seeking a multitude of jobs in recent weeks.

Instead it is a mixture of timing and chance which has seen so many government school positions advertised simultaneously.

The education ministry is currently seeking applications for 26 positions.

Two are ministry roles, 13 are teaching positions and 11 are principal positions.

Sharyn Paio says many current job-holders have reached the end of their contracts and positions are being advertised as a matter of course.

She says vacancies are being advertised earlier than normal to avoid disruptions from the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.
