Cook Islands government appoints new High Commissioner to New Zealand

The Cook Islands government has appointed a new High Commissioner to New Zealand.

Justice of the peace Tiki Matapo has been confirmed in the role by deputy Prime Minister and minister of foreign affairs and immigration, Tom Marsters.

Mr Matapo, a former police officer, is a well-known Cook Islander, who's long been active in the community through politics, sports, religion

He replaces Te Tika Mataiapo Dorice Reid who died just as she was preparing to take over the post earlier this year.

Mr Matapo will take up the appointment later this month
