American Samoa politician wants crackdown on loud music from cars

7:42 pm on 18 August 2011

An American Samoa senator is moving to ban loud music from moving vehicles.

Lemanu Mauga is introducing a bill prohibiting the operation of a sound amplification system on a motor vehicle that can be heard outside the vehicle from 50 or more feet when the vehicle is on the highway.

Our correspondent says there have been complaints regarding vehicles playing loud music during evening curfew hours when families are holding prayers and late at night.

The bill exempts police and emergency vehicles and vehicles used for parades.
