A lay day has been called at the ASP surf tour's Billabong Pro in Tahiti for the third consecutive day with contest organisers stalling the competition until the forecast big waves hit the Teahupoo break in the next couple of days.

Waves dropped off slightly on Tuesday to about one-and-a-half-metres but the forecast remains for surf expected to reach up to four metres by Thursday.

One round was completed on Saturday in perfect two-and-a-half-metre swells with American CJ Hobgood the standout performer with a near-perfect display of tube-riding.
