Tonga's Public Service Association has condemned Fiji's interim prime minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama for his government's harassment, ill treatment and arrest of trade unionists.

Tonga's PSA says the arrests of unionists, Felix Anthony, Daniel Urai, and more recently Nitin Goundar is a disgrace.

It also says the violation of workers' rights in Fiji should not be tolerated nor supported.

The public emergency regulations in which trade unionists, the media and other groups have to operate under in Fiji were also criticised.

In a letter sent to Commodore Bainimarama, Tonga's PSA called on him to stop the harassment, ill treatment and arrest of unionists and to end the violation of workers' rights.

It also went onto say that if Commodore Bainimarama cared for the welfare of his people, he would return Fiji back to an official democratically elected Government as soon as possible.
