Valerie Adams has won her third World Championship Shot Put title with a huge final round throw equaling the World Championship record and smashing her personal best and New Zealand Record.

It took Adams until round three to get going, sitting in sixth place after round two.

Her third round throw of 20.04 took her into the lead and she further extended the lead with a 20.72m throw in round four.

Going into the final round with a big lead, she was the final competitor and without the pressure of the early rounds, unleashed the massive throw of 21.24 metres, equaling the championship record set by Natalia Lisovskaya of the Soviet Union in 1987.

She becomes only the fifth woman to win three world championship titles.
