Dissident queries MSG's support for Fiji regime

A former Fiji army colonel says the heads of Melanesian Spearhead Group countries need to be asked why they are continuing to support the military regime.

The MSG countries are due to meet in Nadi tomorrow ahead of the interim government's Engaging The Pacific meeting - which 20 countries are reported to be attending.

Ratu Tevita Mara, who fled Fiji in May while facing sedition charges, says it's a shame the MSG countries are attending the meeting in support of the regime.

"That's absolutely not a meeting that's about returning democracy to Fiji. It's a meeting that's talking about supporting Fiji. And I think the questions should be put to the MSG countries, why are they continuing to support Fiji. You know, it's supporting an illegal, oppressive regime. What does that stand for, it's against the articles of the MSG."

Ratu Tevita Mara says he would like to ask the MSG leaders on what grounds they support the regime.
