The Commonwealth Secretary General says the organisation is working towards better coordination of climate change funding for Pacific countries.

Kamalesh Sharma is in Auckland to hold meetings alongside the Pacific Islands Forum Summit in Auckland.

He says one aspect is making it easier to apply for funds.

"We've done that for poverty reduction.Secondly, before you get there, in the current climate of somewhat more challenging approach to these agreements. How can you help them access the 20 odd agreements that already exist. We're already having discussion on the adaptation plans. Because the situation of some countries is serious, but for some countries, it's existential."

Kamalesh Sharma says the Commonwealth wants to avoid duplication with what the Forum is doing.
