CNMI government delays wage payments again

10:44 am on 7 September 2011

The cash-strapped Northern Marianas government is again delaying salary payments to some of its staff.

Only critical service and federal-funded employees will get their pay cheques this week and the remainder won't be paid until next week.

The government says 3,000 child tax credit cheques will be released no later than Friday.

The government needs $4 million to cover each payroll but a cash shortage and the need to prioritize government bond payments is contributing to the delay.
