12:43 pm on 9 September 2011

The US Department of Justice is making available 50,000 US dollars to improve access to treatment services for individuals with mental illness or substance use mental disorders .

The funds are to be given to the American Samoa Department of Human and Social Services.

They will be used to design a strategic, collaborative plan for the identification and treatment of individuals with mental illnesses or co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders.

Key to the planning grant is the development of an effective collaboration representing support from all levels of government, justice, mental health and substance abuse treatment services, transportation, housing, advocates, consumers, victims, and family members.
